This week learning about metadata was very eye opening. Finding out that it was actually kind of a simple and (so far) pretty easily usable concept made it a lot less intimidating. In that train of thought, I tried to use my tags on my Omeka posts this week to help readers identify what kind of media they were about to engage with, audio, video, or photo. I also used the tags help a visitor identify, to the best of my abilities, the kind of cats and their names in the posts. I also added a few in for fun, like adding the tag ‘gentle-cats’ to the videos I posted.
As you might be able to tell from the paragraph above, I stuck to posting exclusively cats this week. This is mostly just because I have a lot of media with cats in it and I have titled my website Click Here to See Cats. I don’t really want to fall into the category of clickbait.
I did have some trouble turning a video file into a plain audio one. I thought I had figured it out using VLC but for some reason it was just getting the program stuck in loop where the only way out was just ending the program in task manager. After a few tries at that and some unsuccessful troubleshooting I ended up just using a website that my brother recommended to me. I didn’t end up having any issues with the actual posting of the media, although I would have liked to create a thumbnail for my audio and video files but that may be something I have to come back to.
